Nathan James is looking for a General Accountant to join our team to manage the day-to-day accounting activities.

ABOUT THE ROLE

A person who will be happy, fulfilled, and successful in this role and as a remote team member at Nathan James is someone who values life and identity outside of work. 
You’ll be responsible as a group lead to take over the day-to-day tactical accounting requirements for the division. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, you will be responsible for the delivery of accurate and timely information, maintenance of balance sheet and profit and loss accounts, and preparation of documentation required for the annual financial statements audit.You’ll perform month-end closing activities including manual journal entries and reconciliations for key areas including inventory, fixed assets, prepayments and accruals.  You will oversee and reconcile any inter-company transactions and will comprehend the impact of foreign exchange on our balance sheet accounts.  You’ll also be responsible for preparing the required month end close reports including variance analysis and commentary. 
You’ll ensure all required documentation is prepared and presented in an accurate and logical manner to meet the requirements of the annual financial statements audit . You’ll be given the opportunity to assist on any projects or ad-hoc analysis impacting accounting and will need to stay organized to manage deliverables.
During training, you’ll be expected to be proactive in your process and learn quickly. Once fully up-to-speed (2-3 months), you will be independently owning your areas of responsibility and will take ownership for making sure things are running smoothly — you’ll get all the support and guidance you need along the way!

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for an experienced General Accountant who is confident in their skillset to manage the routine accounting activities of the company. We expect you to have an internationally recognized accounting designation with at least 2 years in a similar role. Having experience in the manufacturing and distribution industries for consumer finished goods will give you an advantage compared to other candidates.
You will have strong attention to detail with ability to prioritize and organize workflow. You use logic and problem-solving skills to find the best way forward and enjoy finding ways to create efficiency and structure through practical solutions and leveraging systems and new technology. You have the ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team supporting others.
Building relationships and trust, both internally and externally, comes easily to you and you can leverage those relationships to actualize your goals.  You are able to analyze complex information and summarize key insights in an organized manner.
For this role we do require that your normal workday has at least 4 hours overlap with the Montreal workday (currently UTC-5) without impinging on your personal/family life. 
This is a remote role, since we are a remote company! You’re free to work where you work best, anywhere in the world: home office, coworking space, or coffee shops. That hinges on effective writing, self-discipline, and comfort with open communication.
