mySociety

We are looking for a Perl Developer to join our growing team at SocietyWorks (the commercial arm of mySociety), to support the rollout of digital Local Authority services for highways, environment and the public realm for our council clients across the UK.
We develop public sector services such as FixMyStreet, that help active citizens support flourishing communities; done simply, responsibly and cost effectively.
This role will require you to work remotely as part of our friendly and purposeful SocietyWorks team, who deliver solutions with a varied range of partners including local authority staff from Customer Services, IT and Digital teams, inspectors and frontline contractors.
The ideal candidate would have experience of building and deploying Software as a Service products and services or clients in local government.
What does the role involve?
As a Developer you will be working as a core member of our multidisciplinary team to:
  • Customise, integrate and deploy our off-the-shelf websites, products and services for clients
  • Develop new Software as a Service products for our public sector clients
  • Further develop and extend our SocietyWorks services including FixMyStreet Pro and FixMyStreet.com services
  • Build and maintain open source tools to help you develop this software
Deadlines and dates

Requirements
We think this position would suit you best if you have some or all of the following:
  • Proficient programming experience in Perl in a professional environment
  • Experience in working with databases (such as PostgreSQL or MySQL)
  • The ability to write clean, maintainable HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Experience with version control, preferably Git and GitHub
  • The ability to write and maintain test suites
  • Experience of collaborating with others on web development projects; it would be a bonus if that was client-facing work

Benefits
This is initially a 12 month contract with a salary in the range of £40,000 to £46,000 per year, plus pension (3% employer contribution, 5% employee).
You must be based in the UK and you need to have the right to work in this country (sorry, but we can’t offer help with visas or relocation expenses).
