DevOps Engineer (Fully Remote)

Float

Who We Are
Float, the world’s leading resource planner, is looking for a DevOps Engineer with exceptional skills in cloud engineering and site reliability engineering to join our remote-first team.
We’re a team of people living our best remote work lives. From New York to Melbourne, Canada to South Africa - our team of Engineers, Product Managers, Marketing and Customer Success folks work asynchronously to help teams plan and manage their time better. Float is self-funded, profitable, and growing. If you’re a self-starter, aligned with our values, and are looking to join a team that’s passionate about helping others work and live more productively, we want to hear from you. Here are a few tips from our CEO to make sure your resume stands out from the crowd.
Who We’re Looking For
A motivated DevOps Engineer who is committed to putting in place the systems and processes necessary to support a geographically diverse Engineering team and customer base. You are excited to provide new levels of insight and analysis into our production systems and to work closely with Product Engineers to ensure the availability and reliability of our best-in-class product. This role reports to the Senior DevOps Engineer and focuses primarily on maintaining a consistently reliable platform by ensuring we have the monitoring and alerting necessary to take timely action when necessary.
We expect that the successful candidate will have significant expertise in the following areas:
  • Infrastructure as Code - preferably Terraform
  • GCP (Google Cloud Platform)
  • Kubernetes and use of Helm
  • SLOs and SLAs (Service Level Objectives & Agreements)
  • Monitoring and observability - Including tools such as Grafana, statsd & Datadog
As a fully remote team, we're looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer who is able to take responsibility, lead with good intent and continuously improve not just themselves but also the team around them. Asynchronous is the default form of communication at Float, and we have very few meetings, so you’ll have long stretches of time to focus on deep work. Everyone at Float leads by example and sets the bar for quality. If you have the skills listed above and strong opinions about DevOps best practices, demonstrate a passion for infrastructure work and are interested in sharing Float’s views within the technical community online as well as supporting our team members in these endeavours, we want to hear from you.
What You’ll Do
You will be working directly with our Engineering team to ensure the health of our platforms, create and maintain incident response procedures (including runbooks) and ensure product engineers have the tools and environments they need.
As a DevOps Engineer, your work will be measured by increased visibility and understanding of service health across the engineering team, improved monitoring coverage of our production systems, improvements in incident metrics (MTTA and MTTR), SLO coverage of production systems and improvement in Infrastructure as Code coverage on our infrastructure.
As Float grows, the health of our underlying platform becomes increasingly important and this role will play a key part in providing the ongoing support and improvements of processes and checks needed for our SOC2 certification.

The salary for this role is US $125k
We have a range of expanding and improving benefits and perks including:
  • Home office expense budget
  • Co-working expense budget

For those in the US, we’ll pay 50% of your medical, dental & vision coverage, including partners and children. Since our HQ is in New York, those outside of the US will be hired as contractors—but don’t worry—you’ll have access to the same great benefits. We’re a global company and we encourage people of all different locations, nationalities, backgrounds, and perspectives to apply.
