Shift Lab is a team of design-minded UX designers and developers. We solve complex challenges for our clients through the use of creative technology.
We craft beautiful, user-driven experiences, connecting the dots between client ambition, conceptual design thinking, and thoughtful code. From extending a creative director’s vision in a digital product to reinventing systems that improve our quality of life, we create innovative user experiences and technical solutions.

Director of Technology
We’re looking for a Director of Technology; a builder of people, a strategic thinker, and a capable practitioner. Someone who can mentor, guide, and enable our amazing team of technologists -- and work with clients, too. You have: a proven track record of effective technical leadership and culture-building. We have: a kind and capable team and roster of clients waiting for your leadership.
Working collaboratively with product + project managers, and our clients, our Director of Technology will help set technical architectures, project plans, roadmaps, and then delegate full-scale development to our teams of capable, cross-discipline Agile teams.
Shift is coming off of seven consecutive years of healthy, sustainable growth, and we are ready to bring on a technology leader to help us unlock our next phase of (calculated) growth. The Director of Technology will join our agency’s leadership team and will have a critical role in shaping and guiding the future direction of our business and team.
You are:
- Experienced in directing talented groups of humans and have 8+ years of experience.
- An empath, an innovator, a people-first technology leader.
- A champion of the Agile process.
- Someone who still wants to be close to code (but maybe not too close).
- A master of object-oriented programming concepts, capable of learning just about any language or framework.
- Collaborative by nature.
- Comfortable with cloud computing architectures and products.
- Understand that good user experiences don’t happen by accident.
- Highly motivated by quality work and craft.
- An extremely effective communicator.
- (Somewhat) tech agnostic, and open to choosing the best tool for the job. Probably not .NET though.
