Summary
We’re seeking a Systems Administrator for multiple high-volume websites supporting Higher Education. You will configure, deploy and maintain highly available and secure systems while supporting an evolving application stack.  You will help drive and implement strategic choices in our evolving cloud infrastructure in support of Students and Higher Learning Institutions. We have interesting technology and growth projects ahead, including new CI/CD tooling to enable secure production deployments at will, new platform technologies utilizing container technology, as well serverless applications and Infrastructure as Code initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Interface with clients during implementation and provide support for ongoing integration activities.
  • Provide support to clients on technical issue escalations as needed.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure configuration management software.
  • Monitor, analyze and isolate issues causing system inefficiencies and recurring problems.
  • Evaluate application infrastructure, identifying and fixing single points of failure and supporting capacity planning.
  • Research and develop innovative, and where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted departments and customers.
  • Support data backups, disaster recovery and Information Security initiatives.
Desired Skills and Experience:
  • 2-3 years of Linux and Windows server administration experience. Extremely comfortable with command line and use of tools to manage, provision, deploy and diagnose Linux systems.
  • Expertise in deployment of Linux application stacks (Linux/Nginx/Apache/Tomcat/MySQL/Php/Python).
  • Experience using Git and Maven to support Java build processes.
  • Practical experience with MongoDB and MySQL
  • Experience or interest with one or more of the following:
    • event transport systems like: RabbitMQ and Kafka;
    • caching systems like: Memcached, Couchbase
    • some familiarity with identity providers like: SAML 2.0, ADFS, CAS, Shibboleth
    • indexing services like: Elasticsearch and Solr
  • Experience monitoring complex infrastructures, analyzing logs and troubleshooting application performance.
  • Solid experience with provisioning and capacity management within a cloud environment.
  • Experience troubleshooting interconnectivity issues and related network technologies such as load balancing, proxy services and tunnel networking.
  • Aptitude for constantly learning new technologies, highly desired.
  • Experience working in a DevOps model supporting an Agile product development life cycle.
Education and Requirements:
  • S.in Computer Science or related Engineering discipline desired
  • 3+ Years of Systems Administration experience in a LAMP (python/php) and/or LAMJ (java)
  • 2+ Years coordinating with internal and external customers of all levels during technical implementations.
  • Competency with configuration management systems such as Chef, Puppet and Ansible (preferred)
  • Expertise utilizing cloud services in mission critical environment.
  • Proven experience supporting cloud-based and on-prem environments for a SAAS-based business.
