Technical Director

As Technical Director, you will lead the technical and architectural integrity of solutions for multiple custom software delivery projects, contribute to company-wide technical strategy, and represent Intelliware from a technical perspective with current and prospective clients. You will provide strategic and hands-on technical leadership for engagements ranging from proof-of-concept prototypes to bulletproof, long living, high volume production applications. With a focus on understanding business challenges and defining technical solutions and direction, you’ll be involved from qualifying to landing to building projects while working closely with clients and alongside our top-notch dev teams. While working with Agile teams and advising clients, you will be:
    • Supporting pre-sales via proposal work, technical assessment/seed architecture overviews, etc.
    • Developing and presenting technical assessments and architectural/product roadmaps
    • Becoming a trusted technical advisor at the client, program, and project level
    • Providing strategic vision, guidance and recommendations based on business drivers and technical constraints
    • Partnering with stakeholders to understand challenges/objectives and translate into actionable tasks/scope
    • Evaluating technical soundness of solutions and developing business cases for alternative solutions based on business drivers and impact/cost analysis
    • Designing high quality applications that are highly scalable and extensible
    • Contributing clear and maintainable code to a shared codebase
    • Collaborating with cross-functional team members on features, design, and implementation
    • Coaching and mentoring team members to help develop their technical and leadership skills
    • Investigating, learning, and introducing new technologies and processes
    • Promoting best practices across dev team and establishing thought leadership
    • Helping set future technical direction through research and review
    ’Must Have’ Skills and Qualifications:
      • Proven software development team/technical project leadership experience
      • Proven experience designing and developing complex applications that are highly scalable and extensible
      • Fluent and current in Java and/or JavaScript
      • Attention to well-crafted software
      • Ability to balance multiple projects at the same time
      • Growth mindset/ability and desire to learn
      • Proven client-facing, partnership, and presentation skills
      • Ability to interact effectively with clients to define user requirements and application architecture
      ’Nice to Have’ Skills and Qualifications:
        • Proven sales, pre-sales, or consultant experience for software development (or similar) services
        • Exposure to and interest in Agile approaches to software development e.g., automated testing, continuous integration, project rooms, pair programming, etc.
        • Fluent and current in HTML5, CSS and JavaScript frameworks
        • Experience with Spring Framework and Kotlin
        • Relational and/or NoSQL databases, SQL queries and object relational mapping tools
        • Significant cloud platform experience, preferably with AWS or Azure
        • Strong fundamental knowledge of computer science algorithms, data structures, and design patterns
        • Experience designing distributed systems at scale handling data sets using, for example, Apache Spark, Kafka, Kinesis, or Hadoop toolsets
        • Distributed computing and platform as a service
        • UNIX, Linux and W3C technologies including HTTP and XML
        • Automated build, test and deployment tools
