We're a rapidly growing $60MM+ metabolic optimization company (100% remote) seeking a dynamic CFO who loves a high growth DTC environment to complete our next growth capital round and build a world-class financial team in-house. This is an energizing opportunity for a CFO / VP of Finance who excels in both equity and debt capital raising, flourishes at optimizing operational finance and has a proven track record of partnering strategically with business units to increase margins and deliver strong EBITDA. It's the excitement and energy of a start-up, but with an 11-year track record of de-risking the business. We've bootstrapped our way to $220MM in revenue but will need the strong leadership of a savvy CFO to help us achieve our ambitious goal of becoming a billion-dollar revenue brand by 2025.
Hello, my name is Marc Stockman, CEO of Metabolic Living, and I need your help. For the last 11 years we've been systematically building different pieces of our MetabolicOS - our ecosystem of offerings that empower people to optimize their metabolism to feel their best, look their best, perform their best and live longer. We're now weaving these disparate elements together to create a unified experience that combines exercise, nutrition, habit change, supplements, coaching and community. To do that requires we raise capital and elevate our in-house financial expertise, which is where you come in.
What Does the Ideal Candidate Look Like?
You have a robust track record of delivering on both debt and equity capital raises, for DTC, e-commerce, retail, omni-channel companies and bring a robust network of investor/lender contacts. You're strong at building operational finance teams and have personal expertise in the core areas of FP&A, treasury, tax, inventory control, etc.
You thrive wringing out savings in COGS and OPEX and know how to deploy capital optimally to drive revenue. You're a systems-oriented thinker who knows how to create a hyper-efficient in-house financial team with experience implementing ERPs and other financial/operational systems to drive efficiencies. You have a strong leadership presence and bring a strategic mindset to pinpoint what strategic investments to make, and which to avoid, bringing a rigorous cost/benefit perspective.
You're extremely into health, wellness and/or fitness. You love experimenting with new habits, realize how critically important having an optimized daily routine is and simply can't get enough of this stuff. Perhaps you've had a health challenge that got you interested, or you've just always been highly passionate about health, wellness and fitness.   • Compensation: $225,000k - $300,000k + Bonus

What Are the Primary Goals?
  • Deliver Growth Capital - Lead our growth equity capital raise, working with our investment banking, legal and other consultants to deliver a smooth process and successful outcome
  • Strategic Growth - Deliver strategic insights into our long-range roadmap to accelerate, improve or otherwise drive incremental value at the strategic level
  • Optimize Profitability and Working Capital - Drive towards our long-term goal of 30% EBITDA and 20% NIAT while ensuring sufficient working capital to support high growth
  • Mitigate Risks - Assess, prioritize, mitigate or transfer risk on a continuous basis, implementing required compliance and controls to ensure unencumbered, clean growth
  • Deliver Smooth Operational Finance - Architect a highly efficient and effective small team built on lean frameworks and agile processes to deliver operational finance needs
What are the Operational Objectives?
  • Cash Flow Forecast & Budget - Develop detailed budget and cashflow forecast so we can easily optimize our P&L at team/department level and manage outlays appropriately
  • Long Range Funding Plan - Architect a funding plan that supports our 5-year growth objectives and develop the necessary investor/lender relationships to deliver against that plan
  • Real-time Financials - Upgrade accounting systems to deliver accurate, real-time daily financials to minimize time-delay reporting risk, while owning all accounting deliverables
  • Dashboarding System - Build departmental financial dashboards to empower team leaders to optimize their budgets quickly, easily and with confidence
  • ERP Upgrade - Lead upgrade from current QuickBooks-centric system to an efficient, scalable ERP that supports our long-term growth

What's Our Past and Future?
Our company may be a bit confusing at first glance because we built everything organically in reverse, starting with our first nutrition program in 2012, then our first exercise program in 2014 and then launching our full ecosystem of products, including nutraceuticals, functional foods, subscriptions, memberships, 1-on-1 coaching and more. We market these all separately under different DTC websites.
However, now everything's being centralized under our new brand, Metabolic. We're launching our flagship e-comm website on Metabolic.com in Q2 and our digital product + e-comm app in Q3. Normally, companies raise money, launch with a brand and then figure out how to make money later. We did that in reverse - creating products that solve specific problems first to bootstrap, scaling that up to fund building out our team and infrastructure, and then retrofitting the brand on top.

Requirements
What are the Required Skills, Experience and Traits?
  • 7+ Years as Strategic CFO - Ideally in start-up/fast-growth, mid-level maturity and enterprise environments to provide the 360 perspective of all financial needs in our growth path
  • Debt + Equity Fundraising - Robust track record of successfully delivering growth capital raises of $50MM+
  • Multi-Channel Consumer - Deep and wide consumer-oriented experience ranging including DTC, distributor, retail, domestic, international, etc.
  • Strong Operational Finance - Have built numerous internal operational finance teams and have personal expertise in the core areas of FP&A, treasury, tax, inventory control, etc.
  • Hands-on Skillsand Desire - Not just comfortable but excited to take a hands-on role to finance, building the plan while flying it, assembling the team as we go
  • Systems Mindset - You see everything as a system, can easily identify all of its moving parts, how they relate in logic, time, sequence and function and use that insight to constantly optimize by removing constraints and capitalizing on opportunities with people, process and tech
