About the position
The Internet Society Foundation focuses on funding initiatives that strengthen the Internet’s function and reach to effectively serve all people.  Their work advances the vision of the Internet Society. This role is responsible for budgeting, forecasting, internal financial reporting, and analysis of financial results, revenue recognition, and accounting support.
As such the Senior Accountant, Budgeting and Forecasting will report to the Senior Manager, Budgeting & Forecasting to support the required activities to effectively manage the budgeting & forecasting, and monitoring spending, revenue recognition and other accounting related duties for Internet Society and Foundation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for planning and training for the annual budgeting and forecasting processes for the Foundation to ensure budgets and forecasts are developed accurately and promptly.
  •  Collaborate closely with Foundation staff on budgeting and financial planning for all existing programs, operations, and approved strategic action plans.
  •  Analyze and monitor the actuals vs. budgeted financial results and provide continuous support and advice to program budget owners and department heads.
  •  Assist in entering and verifying budgets and forecasts in the budgeting system
  •  Assist the Senior Manager, Budgeting & Forecasting, in preparing the internal financial reports for the Foundation’s Executives and Board of Trustees.
  •  Research the cause of variances in the Foundation’s actuals to the budget/forecast and ensure the Executives are well apprised.
  •  Assist the Senior Accounting Manager in compliance reviews of grantees’ financial reports
  •  Reconcile revenue accounts, prepare revenue recognition journal entries, prepare roll-forward schedules for revenue-related accounts, including but not limited to deferred revenue and donor-restricted net asset accounts.
  •  Support development teams in ensuring compliance with revenue recognition standards
  •  Collaborate with program and operation teams to understand the financial implications of organizational decisions.
  •  Assist in annual audit and accounting period close activities
  •  Provide accounting support and take on ad hoc projects as needed, and handle process improvements
  • Other duties as assigned
 
Desired Qualifications
  • BS/BA in Accounting/Finance with a minimum of three years experience in accounting/finance fields is desired.
  •  Excellent computer skills; advanced MS Excel skills; and proficiency with accounting, budgeting, and forecasting software are prefered.
  •  Strong knowledge of finance and accounting standards and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  •  Prior experiences in budgeting and forecasting for a non-profit organization are preferred.
  •  Solid reporting and presentation skills preferred.
  •  Strong attention to detail, demonstrated integrity and professionalism.
  •  Must be proficient and able to thrive in a fast-paced, global environment.
  •  Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet deadlines required. 
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Commitment to the Internet Society’s mission, values and objectives.
  •  Experience working with a Globally distributed workforce and ability to work across time zone.
  •  Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability interact positively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment.
  •  Ability to travel as needed.
Compensation and benefit package for this position will be competitively commensurate with the successful applicant’s qualifications.
