Technical Writer / Software Tester

Evergiving

Evergiving is a SaaS platform that supports fundraising for good causes. We need your help!We have a small team of Developers and DevOps that build a really interesting variety of software into Evergiving: We’re PCI Level 1 and have more integrations to card payment gateways than almost any other commercial application in the world. We support GIS applications, offline web forms, business process flows, reporting systems, a learning management system, call center, digital / QR systems, payroll, gamification, API integrations and more. Security underpins everything we do. Tens of thousands of fundraisers rely on Evergiving in 45 countries and in 21 languages, to organize themselves and recruit donors to important causes like Greenpeace, UNICEF, Red Cross, Plan, WWF, Oxfam, SOS, IRC and UNHCR. They generate billions of dollars each year.We have a small team of Customer Success/Support/Account Managers that help them. We’re all-rounders, with strong technical expertise and we share the load of UAT, low-level debugging, and documentation. It’s time that we created a new and dedicated role for a real hero at this…Writing - 40%We write blog posts for major features; some we create pages on our website and record tutorials for. We communicate significant releases/features to customers in-app via Intercom.io. We have in-app help articles, and we want to create better general user documentation/guides. We have a half finished project to create clickable product tours; and one to implement Localize.io for language translation management.Responsibilities:
  • Document deployments
  • Help write blog posts
  • Create user guides
  • Develop in-app tutorials and product tours
  • Improve internal documentation
  • Manage language translations
Testing - 40%We release 10-20 stories per week, an assortment of bug fixes and new features. We have really good processes in place (they’re externally audited) and there’s a solid chain of tools and procedures that help prevent bugs getting out (spoiler: they inevitably do). The last line of defense is internal UAT.Responsibilities:
  • Own and expand the configuration of an automated test tool, we use Ghost Inspector (but don’t have to moving forward)
  • Own the configuration of our recent project to implement launchdarkly.com, for blue-green deployments.
  • Manage UAT and own Quality Assurance generally.
Support - 20%We use a variety of logging, monitoring and error reporting tools including sentry.io, papertrail.com and scalyr.com. These tools help us identify bugs.Responsibilities:
  • Work with our support team, and sometimes customers, to reproduce bugs where possible.
  • Work with monitoring tools, and sometimes the development team, to identify the cause of bugs.
  • Document and work with the support team to prioritise bug fixes.
  • Champion ‘problems’ to engineer them out entirely.
Who you are:
  • You must understand the link between good issue writing, good software testing and good article writing across the release cycle; and its impact on easier debugging. You’re passionate about this.
  • Your writing is engaging and easy to follow. You can make complex simple, and you understand the value of fun - there’s a bit of delight around every corner.
  • You’ve definitely worked in modern software delivery. You don’t have to be too technical, if you can code, great - but you should have some basic understanding of CSS (ability to read selectors) and perhaps a bit of javascript/html. You should definitely have enough technical proficiency to pick up and use new tools and technologies easily.
  • We're a small multi-disciplinary team. You'll appreciate the variety and opportunity that offers and be able to switch focus easily but you don't get distracted and you finish everything you start.
  • We all work from home, as must you. You'll enjoy the flexibility and freedom that brings but have the maturity to handle it. You can work unsupervised.
  • You possess strong critical thinking and problem solving abilities.
  • You're known to be honest, kind, fun, patient, generous and intelligent. Business English is required. Any other languages always welcome!
Who we are and what we can offer you: In return, we will provide you with the opportunity to build something amazing.
