Surge Forward is looking for smart, self-motivated, experienced, senior-level consultants who enjoy the freedom of telecommuting and flexible schedules, to work as long-term, consistent (40 hrs/week) independent contractors on a variety of software development projects.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Proficiency with Scala • Proficiency with PostgreSQL, Redis• Experience in data processing formats Like Json and Parquet• Familiar with SBT and Docker• Knowledge or experience about Restful API• Proficiency in source code management, software development, Unix tools and terminal• Foundational knowledge of algorithms, networking, concurrency, file systems
NICE TO HAVE:• Experience with software design patterns• Understanding of Kubernetes• Experience with business intelligence and digital analytics
QUALIFICATIONS:• Experience and capability to design, specify and build a data API• Solid understanding of large system design, streaming big data and performance trade-offs• Deep experience with SQL and multiple Relational Database Management Systems with non-trivial databases.• Demonstrated expertise in AWS cloud computing, and understanding of data management best practices• Strong communication, verbal and written skills• Keen to take the leadership of the expertise domains• Solution-oriented, able to implement prototypes with new tools quickly• 3-5+ years of experience in software engineering and data analytics• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in computer science, or a related field
RESPONSIBILITIES:• Develop and maintain software components to enhance, transform and model raw data• Develop and maintain a highly available and scalable real-time API• Investigate and resolve performance bottlenecks, data quality issues and automation failures• Implement and manage continuous delivery systems and methodologies• Implement tests and validation processes to maintain the code and data quality
