We’re looking for a Director of Technical Recruiting to join the Automattic team! The Director of Technical Recruiting will report to the Head of Talent Operations and will join a group of Directors who are responsible for recruiting, onboarding, and various aspects of learning and development within Product Design, Customer Support, General Business, and Engineering. The Director of Technical Recruiting will lead our fully distributed technical recruitment team to source talent, coordinate candidate pipelines, drive positive candidate experience, and collaborate across all hiring areas to meet our ambitious growth goals.
About the team
Our Technical Recruiting team is at the forefront of bringing extraordinary Software Engineers into Automattic, no matter where in the world they might be. We work in collaboration and partnership with our Developer Experience team and HR to provide an end-to-end hiring experience for technical roles into WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Tumblr and the rest of Automattic’s operating divisions. 
What We are Looking for
The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience leading teams of 6+ people, communicating and working with cross-functional teams, and organizing and creating alignment for full-cycle recruiting teams. This includes working with technical stakeholders, HR, and managers to onboard hundreds of developers, coders, and engineers successfully onto existing teams. We are looking for someone who has experience working at an engineering-driven company with a focus on commercial / consumer-facing web products. Ideally, this person will also have strong and demonstrated leadership experience in fast-growing, global, and distributed companies.  
  • Robust experience scaling recruiting functions and technical hiring processes at orders of magnitude.
  • Experience balancing company, division, and team goals.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, managing fluctuating priorities, and creating alignment across teams and functional areas with conflicting priorities.
  • Data-driven analytical ability, with an interest in finding solutions to tricky problems.
  • Understanding of recruitment strategies, awareness of industry standards, and experience adapting best practices to align with a company’s unique culture and needs.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to lead / drive and prioritize multiple high impact projects.  
  • Strong conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring team members, with an understanding of team dynamics and with a toolkit of professional growth frameworks. 
  • Experience developing, implementing, and championing practices and programs for increasing diversity in hiring processes.
  • Experience building sustainable recruiting infrastructure for an engineering-focused organization.
  • Highly organized, adaptable, and flexible, with a collaborative attitude; ready to roll up your sleeves when necessary.
What You’ll Do
Lead a remote team: Provide mentorship, guidance and career development to members of the team, ensure team members are hitting metrics, and onboard and train new recruiters. Facilitate communication with partners to develop an understanding of role requirements. Ensure the team is prepared and equipped to execute successfully on division goals.
Coordinate passive and active recruitment strategies: Empower the team to identify, source, and engage passive candidates that meet our often specific or unique requirements and collaborate with employer branding on initiatives. Ensure that the team is set up for success to execute on campaigns driven off multiple channels, including LinkedIn, Stack Overflow, and other platforms. You will be a wealth of knowledge and a strong resource for the team.
Drive the full-cycle developer recruitment process: Plan, develop, and implement innovative sourcing strategies for global markets, refine our processes across a variety of roles, and ensure a positive recruiting experience for all engineering candidates that gives an authentic feel for life and culture at Automattic.
Support and foster data-informed management: Pioneer the evolution of our  tools to maintain efficiency and a strong candidate experience. Ensure that the data we collect is used and leveraged by the team to make informed decisions and develop detailed profiles of target candidates. Create space and set the pace for Diversity and Inclusion efforts. Identify trends, analyze data, and develop creative, customized sourcing strategies.
Form relationships with divisional leadership teams: Ensure that technical recruiting efforts are aligned with our goals, assess current processes, advise on process improvement opportunities, and standardise recruiting practice.
