Chief Backend Engineer (Google Cloud Platform)

Alight Creative’s growing product line depends on a continuously expanding backend infrastructure to process purchases, store and serve user-created projects and media assets, serve dynamic content, transcode video, track analytics, and collect and process massive device capability datasets.
As Chief Backend Engineer, you will take over responsibility for maintenance and continued development of Alight Creative’s existing backend infrastructure, eventually moving to a management role overseeing other engineers as the team grows.

Responsibilities
- Build and improve serverless backend solutions using Google Cloud Functions, Firebase, and App Engine using TypeScript, Kotlin and Java.
- Lead projects and teams to build new backend infrastructure for future Alight Creative service offerings.
- Implement integrations with 3rd party services for media processing and transcoding, to provide new features for users and to optimize use of cloud platform resources.
- Maintain backend billing integrations for the App Store and Google Play, and implement integrations with other billing providers.
- Build developer APIs for 3rd party tools to integrate with Alight Creative services.
- Build and improve CI and test frameworks.
- Analyze our device performance dataset in BigQuery and build tools for querying, visualizing, and distilling that data.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience building reliable, scalable backend services capable of handling millions of daily active users.
- Solid understanding of best practices for data security, and familiarity with modern privacy and information security regulations such as GDPR.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform in a production environment.
- Experience with Javascript or TypeScript.
- Strong database experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
- 5+ years of experience in design and development of software systems.
- Fluency in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Firebase, in particular with building Cloud Firestore solutions at scale.
- Experience with BigQuery and Google Data Studio.
- Solid understanding of video encoding standards such as AVC and HEVC.
- Knowledge of video container formats.
- Experience with cloud-based video transcoding.
- Experience building backend integrations for Google Play or App Store in-app purchase verification, especially for subscription services.
- Experience building integrations with payment platforms such as FastSpring or Stripe.
- Experience with AWS.
- Experience with Kotlin or other JVM languages.
- Fluency in Korean.
