At Edward Jones we are developing a next-generation analytics architecture to support our growing business. As part of the Data Architecture and Data Design team, you will be challenged daily to find innovative solutions to improve the speed and consumption of our information. This will also bring you into contact with a diverse array of stakeholders ranging from IT to our front line business organizations, and you will be working on defining an architecture platform that establishes the foundational layer for Edward Jones analytics for years to come.
Responsibility Summary:
- Design and deliver data and analytic platform requirements to ensure the highest levels of availability, performance and security of the firm's data and information
- Responsible for working with other internal engineering roles and vendors to define required systems integrations to support initiatives
- Drive significant data technology initiatives end to end, across multiple layers of architecture, and across multiple distribution technologies for operational and analytic environments
- Drive design and implementation of durable data architecture and software solutions that will solve critical customer problems, performance barriers and security needs
- Recommend development best practices for application development as it relates to integrating data requirements
- Deliver technical design and implement highly available, scalable and secure data services with excellent quality
- Partner with other groups both inside and outside of IT for cross-functional design and solution integration
- Work with cross-functional team members from architecture, product management, and production development to develop, test, and release features
- Actively stay abreast of mobile/ SaaS/ PaaS trends and standards, recommend best practices and share learning
- Pursue and resolve complex or unchartered technical problems and share key learnings
- Provide technical leadership and be a role model to data and analytic software engineers pursuing technical career path in engineering
- Provide/ inspire innovations that fuel the growth of the firm as a whole
- Coach and mentor other data platform engineers in process and methodologies
- Provide perspective on leading industry trends, recommendations on new and emerging technologies, technology prototypes, patent proposals and engineering process improvements
- Strong educational background with BS/ MS in Computer Science or related area
- 8+ years of experience developing systems/ software for large business environments
- Strong experience leading design and implementation of robust and highly scalable services
- Strong Object-oriented design and Solution-oriented architecture principles, with the ability to implement them in a language of choice (Java, Spark)
- Experience with SQL (DB2, AWS RDS, Oracle, MySQL, Google BigQuaery, SAPHana, Teradata, PostreSQL, SQLServer) and no-SQL is required (MongoDB, Cassandra, Apache HBase, MarkLogic)
- Experience with Amazon AWS/ MSFT Azure or similar cloud platform is required (2-3 years preferred)
- Experience with Microservices is highly desirable
- Experience with full stack development and automation
- Proven experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting UNIX /Linux and Windows Server based environments
- 5-7 years of experience in the administration and performance tuning of application stacks (Tomcat, JBoss, Apache, Ruby, NGINX)
- Experience with virtualization and containerization (VMware, Virtual Box)
- Experience with monitoring systems
- Demonstrated ability in scripting skills (eshell scripts, Perl, Ruby, Python)
- Demonstrated ability in networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP
- Able to operate at highly varying levels of abstraction from business strategy to product strategy to high level technical design to detailed technical design to implementation
- Ability to handle a fast paced environment for iterative project turnarounds on mission critical systems
- Passionate for continuous learning, experimenting and applying cutting edge technology and software paradigms
