Do you want to work for a mission-driven non-profit, creating data visualizations that will contribute to lifting millions of coffee farmers out of poverty? Enveritas is a 501(c)3 non-profit and Y Combinator-backed startup hiring for our new Data Visualization Team. You can learn more about the team at: https://www.enveritas.org/jobs/data-viz/
We’re looking for a data visualization designer with frontend engineering skills who has at least five years of experience creating interactive websites to join our Data Visualization Team. The Data Viz Team is a new four-person team at Enveritas, supported by our Engineering and Data Teams of about a dozen people.
About Our Data Visualization Team
Our data visualization team creates interactive visualizations and dashboards to communicate our data. We design interfaces and write code to transform millions of raw data points into beautiful visualizations about the sustainability and environmental aspects of smallholder farmers. The Data Visualization Team also makes compelling static images for visually explaining what Enveritas does and what we’ve learned.
What You’ll Be Doing
  • Designing compelling visuals. You will be responsible for the UX and design of our interactive experiences. You will collaborate with the team’s other interaction designer / engineer, Fabian, and the team’s technical project manager, Joshua. You’ll be responsible for creating designs, mockups, and prototypes, and then working toward implementation.
  • Implementing Javascript. As part of this role, you should be comfortable writing Javascript, CSS, and HTML for realizing the team’s visual designs. While you will be supported by Frontend Engineers from the Engineering team, you should be able to write Javascript for keeping interactive designs in sync (for example, using React hooks for updating states).
Who You Are
Our work is often ambiguous, so you should have a love for environments with uncertainty. Our work is to gather and show new data about the world, and figuring out the best way to do that isn’t always clear. You should have a deep empathy for users of our work and understand the value of how good design can turn quantitative data into clear insights.
Our team is fully distributed, so you should be comfortable with remote work. This role is a full-time individual contributor role with hours based on Eastern Time Zone of the United States. Our core hours are 10am to 4pm Eastern Time Monday through Friday, with team members choosing either an early start or later stop as suits them.

This said, we are most likely to be interested in your candidacy if you can demonstrate the majority of the qualifications listed below:
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Graphic Design, Interface/Information Design, or Computer Science; or similar training.
  • At least five years of practical design experience with an emphasis on how to design with a focus on ease of implementation.
  • Proficient with Javascript; experience with React is desirable.
  • Proficient with UI/UX tools such as Figma and Invision.
  • A portfolio showing your design work at various stages, from inception to production.
  • An excitement for our mission of improving the lives of smallholder farmers and an interest in sustainability.
